Border Maquiladoras and Research Interpretations: An International Symposium
Abstract
A constant stream of popular and scientific literature has emerged dealing with the expanding maquiladora industry in northern Mexico as a possible menace to Mexico or as its economic savior. Most of these accounts by writers and reporters of the public media, the scholarly analysts and the documentary historians are incongruous and inconclusive as to the desirability or undesirability of this industry. Not only are there vast disparities between these groups of writers, but between writers within each category as well.
