Language and Hearts are Important: Building "Affecting Athleticism" in DIESL
This article documents the activities of an English as aSecond Language class which incorporates drama as amethodology. Theatre in ESL allows for the development ofaffect tools which, as the experiences in this article illustrate,can enrich connections and interrelating in a secondlanguage class, as well as promote language acquisition.Intercultural explorations are made and feelings shared whenESL students are invited to interact in ways that a theatrebasedapproach makes possible. This article outlines thatprocess and suggests benefits of the DIESL (drama in ESL)methodology.
