Author Guidelines

Article submissions should be between 3,500–6,000 words, including footnotes and bibliography. For style and spelling conventions use the Canadian Oxford Dictionary, 2nd ed., and the Chicago Manual of Style, 16th ed. Citations should be in the humanities style (numbered footnotes) as set forth in Chicago.

Creative work

Original literary or artistic work will be considered. Submissions of short fiction or creative non-fiction, including personal essay, memoir, and creative cultural criticism, should be 1,000–3,500 words long. Poetry submissions should include three to six poems.

Photographers or artists are invited to submit three to eight images related to this theme. The images should be such that could reproduce well in a small format. Colour images will be considered, though the number of coloured pages we can include is limited. Send images in a high-resolution digital format and include a 300–600 word artist’s statement that speaks to the images submitted. Please do not send the original artwork.

Reviews and interviews

Review essays may be from 1250-3000 words in length and book reviews should be between 500 and 1000 words.
