Author Biographies

Terry Rodgers, MA

Terry received her Master of Arts degree in the department of Art History and Visual Studies from the University of Victoria in 2016 where her research focused on Renaissance portraiture, gendered architecture, and 16th century Venetian social hierarchies at the Villa Barbaro, Maser, Italy. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto. Prior to graduate studies, Terry had an extensive career in magazine publishing in Toronto as well as co-founding an organic food company on Vancouver Island. In 2015 Terry co-founded the Art History and Visual Studies Graduate Association (AHVSGA) and served as the association’s first Co-Chair - MA on the Board of Directors. Terry’s post-graduate involvement with AHVSGA included an Alumni role on the Board and acting as Managing Editor for Volume 4 of the Graduate Journal, ARTiculate. Terry continues her ongoing academic research with the support of her friends and colleagues at the University of Victoria for which she is very grateful.

Dr. Munazzah Akhtar

Munazzah received her PhD from the Department of Art History and Visual Studies at the University of Victoria in 2021. She also holds professional Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) and Master of Architecture (M.Arch) degrees, and worked as a licenced architect before joining academia as a lecturer in 2003. In the past two decades she has gained extensive teaching and research experience. She is the recipient of various awards and fellowships including the Barakat Trust Graduate Student Award and the SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship. Currently, Munazzah is working as the Chairperson and Associate Professor at the Department of Architecture, University of Engineering & Technology Lahore (Pakistan). She also serves as member of the Board of Studies and Postgraduate Committees of various architectural schools in Lahore. Moreover, she is the section-editor Architecture and Town Planning for the Pakistan Journal of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

Munazzah is thankful for the opportunity to have worked together with the amazing editorial team and contributors of the fourth volume of ARTiculate.

Alexa Heenan, MA

Alexa holds a Master of Arts in Art History and Visual Studies (2019) from the University of Victoria and a Bachelor of Arts Honours (2015) in Art History with double minors in Cultures of Display and History from the University of Regina. Her M.A. research focused on the legacy of photographer Edward S. Curtis and the alternative narratives that are presented within exhibition spaces through the incorporation of contemporary Indigenous art, voices, and perspectives. Alexa has held curatorial and research positions at the MacKenzie Art Gallery, the RCMP Heritage Center and the University of Regina President’s Art Collection in Regina, Saskatchewan. Alexa is currently the Researcher Coordinator and Lead Researcher for Havlik Consulting Group, writing Specific Claims for various First Nation’s across Canada. She is grateful for the opportunity to work as co-editor on the exhibition and book reviews for the fourth volume of ARTiculate.

Dr. Françoise Keating

Françoise received her PhD from the Department of Art History and Visual Studies at UVic in 2022. Her doctoral research evaluated pivotal images and literature in the cultural production of King René d’Anjou (1409–80) and his entourage, investigating the court’s emotional response to socio-political conditions during the period that followed the Hundred Years’ War. Françoise is especially interested in René’s contributions to the medieval debate on love and gender roles, and the part that devotion played in the Angevin-Provençal identity fashioning through the prince’s definition of true nobility. Françoise was a Graduate Fellow at the Centre for Studies in Religion and Society (2020–21) at UVic. She contributed to ARTiculate as an author for Volume 2, then in the roles of co-editor for Volumes 3 and 4, as well as layout designer for Volume 4.

Dr. Brian Pollick

Brian was a member of the editorial team for both Volume 2 and 4 of ARTiculate. He received his PhD from the Art History and Visual Studies Department at the University of Victoria in 2021. His area of specialization is fourteenth-century Italian art, with particular focus on the uses and functions of merchant-commissioned imagery.

Brian’s previous careers included 35 years in senior management positions in the justice field at the governmental, non-profit, and private sector levels. Brian has presented papers at numerous conferences in Canada and the United States and has published two articles in this journal. He is currently an Associate Fellow at the Centre for Studies in Religion & Society at the University of Victoria and is the Managing Editor for its peer-reviewed journal, ILLUMINE.
