Author Biography

Dersu Yazicioglu, University of Victoria

Dersu completed her bachelor’s degrees in Sociology, Arts Management, and Business Administration. She is a second-year MA student in Art History and Visual Studies Studies at the University of Victoria. Her research paper, titled Emergence of Women’s Voices: Exploring the Increase of Documented Female Artists from 1890 to 1930, focuses on the female painters in the Ottoman Empire and how politics have influenced the idea of canon in Turkish historiography. Moreover, she is interested in Critical Theory and interdisciplinary studies of art history and political sciences. During her master’s degree, Dersu worked as a Research Assistant for Prof. Evanthia Baboula in research on Ottoman Architecture in the Peloponnese peninsula. Throughout her studies, she also gained experience as a Teaching Assistant. Her goal is to apply her lifelong fascination with cultures to a creative and educational career.
