Nott Pond Riparian Restoration
Abstract
The Nott Pond restoration site is located within the traditional territory of the T’Sou-ke Nation at John Phillips Memorial Park in Sooke, British Columbia. Historical colonial land uses, including farming and the construction of a golf course, have significantly altered the site’s ecological function. The highly degraded western fringe was selected as the focus for initial restoration efforts, with the intention of implementing an approach that is both ecologically sound and culturally respectful. Given limited resources, the project emphasized strategies that are ecologically, culturally, and socially efficient, prioritizing actions that restore function and support cultural and community values. This project also aims to serve as a catalyst for future restoration, demonstrating how small, community-driven restoration efforts can foster broader ecological and eco-cultural restoration.
