  • Alyssa Baartman Simon Fraser University

Abstract

In Meditations on the Song of Songs and Interior Castle, Teresa of Avila describes God as both her Spouse and Mother. This article explores how scholars have interpreted Teresa's works in the past and argues that gender analysis of Teresa's bridal and maternal imagery must be more fully utilized in order to understand Teresa and her works.
