Review an Article

Articles submitted for consideration in The Graduate History Review are reviewed by history graduate students and faculty. Upon submission, articles are circulated to two anonymous reviewers, who base their recommendations for publication on the following factors:

Originality and strength of argument

  • use of primary source material
  • grounded in review of relevant literature
  • the contribution of article to that literature
  • appropriateness of conclusions based on presentation of evidence

Style and organization

  • quality and coherence of writing
  • structure and organization of article
  • adherence to The Chicago Manual of Style

Once a decision on publication has been made, the journal editor will contact the author with a summary of comments and reports.

Note: with regard to Research Notes, primary source analysis is not required, but the submission will be subject to similar evaluation criteria for style and organization.
