Call for Applications for Editor-in-Chief

The International Journal of Child, Youth, and Family Studies (IJCYFS) is a peer-reviewed, open access, interdisciplinary, cross-national journal that is commiBed to scholarly excellence in the research field of children, youth, their families, and the communities they reside within. IJCYFS publishes four issues annually in March, June, September and December.

IJCYFS is seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to fill the role of Editor-in-Chief. The Editor-in-Chief works closely with other Editors who constitute the core Editorial team. The core editorial team will work with the Editorial Board comprised of experts in various fields related to research about children, youth, and their families. Most of the work is completed using web-based software; therefore, the Editor-in-Chief can work remotely from any location. The Editor-in-Chief will chair a minimum of two virtual meetings of the Editorial Board per year. The position of Editor-in-Chief is voluntary, and no remuneration is provided.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Developing and implementing strategies for the IJCYFS to fulfil its mission
  • Chairing the Editorial Board
  • Appointing and supervising Editors and Editorial board members
  • Working in collaboration with the Editors to:
          o Recruit reviewers
          o Assess new submissions for suitability for review
          o Manage the peer-review process
  • Disseminating information about the journal
  • Raising the journal’s profile among relevant institutions and constituencies
  • Participate in the process of appointing a successor at the end of their term.
The Editor-in-Chief is appointed by the University of Victoria’s School of Child and Youth Care Journal Oversight CommiBee for a three-year term, with the possibility of renewal.

Required knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Strong academic background in one or more disciplines of Child and Youth Care
  • Recognized leader in the field of Child and Youth Care with a strong publication record
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to network with peers in a wide variety of settings and disciplines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
