Call for Papers - Special Issue: Faculty of Education Graduate Student Publication

Drs. Shemine Gulamhusein and Morgan Mowatt invite submissions for an upcoming publication showcasing the diverse research, practice insights, and lived experiences of current and recent Faculty of Education graduate students. This special issue aims to highlight the breadth of work emerging in the faculty. It welcomes both scholarly and creative contributions that reflect students’ questions, commitments, and evolving areas of interest.

Submissions may take a range of forms, including academic articles, reflective essays, arts-based or creative works, and practice-oriented pieces. We encourage contributions that engage critically and imaginatively with child and youth care, families, communities, education, and related fields.

Examples of Possible Submissions

Students are invited to submit work in a range of scholarly, creative, and practice-oriented forms, including but not limited to:

  • Research articles (e.g., thesis excerpts, pilot studies, literature reviews)
  • Practice reflections or field-based insights
  • Case studies or program evaluations
  • Narrative or autoethnographic pieces
  • Arts-based research (e.g., poetry, visual art, collage, photography with reflection)
  • Critical essays engaging theory, policy, or contemporary issues
  • Dialogues or co-authored theory pieces (e.g., conversations with peers, community collaborators, or mentors)
  • Story-based or oral history-informed writing
  • Pedagogical reflections (e.g., teaching, facilitation, or learning experiences in CYFCS contexts)
  • Community-engaged or participatory research reflections
  • Pieces that experiment with form, voice, or genre in relation to CYFCS work

Submission Guidelines

  • Maximum length: 5000 words
  • Open to: Current and recent Faculty of Education graduate students
  • Formats: Scholarly and/or creative submissions

  • Call for papers released: June 30, 2026
  • Abstract submission due: August 31, 2026 (email abstracts to shemineg@uvic.ca and morganmowatt@uvic.ca)
  • Abstract decision communicated: September 15, 2026
  • Full submission due: December 31, 2026 (submitted via the IJCYFS website)
  • Peer review period: January 2027
  • Revisions: February 2027
  • Revised submission due: February 28, 2027
  • Copyediting: March-April 2027
  • Final editing: May 2027
  • Final submission due: May 31, 2027
  • Publication: June 2027
