Author Guidelines

Essays that merit publishing in On Politics are well-written essays that provide a compelling and well-articulated argument. The essay should be academic in style, and use scholarly sources to support its argument. The tone of essay is confident, and is not merely a review of the literature on the subject. Where possible, the essay contributes a different scholarly perspective than is usually presented on the subject in question.

Submissions to On Politics are welcomed from students at the undergraduate level. Main feature articles are between 4000-4500 words, including notes and references. There are additional regular length articles in each issue that are between 2500-3000 words, and a book/film review of 1500-1700 words. References and notes shall be made using Chicago Style footnoting (see http://nutsandbolts.washcoll.edu/chicago.html)

Submissions are typically only received electronically to onpol@uvic.ca. But please exlore all your contact options.

Please include your class number (e.g. POLI 360), if it was for a class, with the article and notes as one attached .doc or .rtf file. Any references made to the author's name within the document shall be removed during the selection process.
