Author Guidelines

Essays that merit publishing in On Politics are well-written essays that provide a compelling and well-articulated argument. The essay should be academic in style and use scholarly sources to support its argument. The tone of essay is confident, argumentative, and is not merely a review of the literature on the subject. Where possible, the essay contributes a different scholarly perspective than is usually presented on the subject in question.

Submissions must have received at least an A- in a 200-level or higher class at UVic and be between 1500-4500 words. We encourage folks to submit papers written from courses in other disciplines outside of PoliSci, ranging from Indigenous Studies, Sociology, Gender Studies, History, Environmental Studies, and more. As long as it’s political in nature!** Please send submissions to politicsjournal@gmail.com with a brief synopsis (100 words or less) *when paper submissions are open*.

In consideration of our continuing commitments to anti-racist action: feel free to indicate if you are a member of an equity-seeking group. We take this into consideration during our selection process, alongside our commitment to showcasing exemplary undergraduate scholarship. On Pol receives a high number of quality submissions every year, and we hope especially to publish and highlight BIPOC undergraduate work whenever possible.

**If your submission is not a POLI paper, include a brief description (100 words or less) as to why your paper is political in nature.
