PIR is looking for a new Editor!

2023-01-26

Philosophy in Review (PiR) is seeking a new Editor. The new Editor will receive new submissions at a start date that will be negotiable and allow for adequate transition time.

The new Editor will be recognized internationally for their scholarly contributions to the field of philosophy, reflected in a strong track record of publications and presentations. They should also have an extensive international network of contacts to expand the Journal’s reach and impact. The ideal Editor will be skilled in diplomacy, networking, and written and verbal communication. They should also have previous editorial experience, have knowledge of open scholarship practices, and have thoughts on ways to grow the journal to increase its visibility and impact factor. Please note that, unlike some other editorial positions in philosophy, the editorship of PiR is not a paid position.

The position of the Editor includes the following responsibilities:

  • Commissioning reviews of new books in all branches of philosophy and serving as an ambassador for the journal by encouraging submission from new/existing authors.
  • Working with publishers to ensure that review copies reach reviewers in a timely fashion.
  • Working with the Managing Editor and the publishing team in the editing and production of issues published by the journal.
  • Engaging in targeted outreach to members and individuals from under-represented groups to ensure inclusiveness and diversity in the scholars contributing to the journal.

Philosophy in Review is an open access, specialist book review journal in philosophy, published four times a year. We cover all areas of and approaches to philosophy. The journal has been in publication since 1981, has approximately 1200 online readers, and is indexed in EBSCO’s Philosopher’s Index, Érudit, and EBSCO Essentials.

Applicants should send a curriculum vitae, and a vision statement (2 pages) on how they would like to see PiR develop in the future in one pdf file. Please send application materials by February 17, 2022 via email to pir@uvic.ca. Shortlisted applicants may be interviewed via zoom. If you have any questions, please email the Editor, Robert Piercey, at robert.piercey@uregina.ca.
