About the Journal
Focus and Scope
Sophia is a non-profit journal, first published in 1998, intended to provide a forum for undergraduate students to exhibit the toils of their undergraduate years.
Published by students at the University of Victoria, Sophia provides the opportunity for students at UVic, as well as universities and colleges aroudn the world, to present philosophical thought, aiming at fostering an environment encouraging philosophical discourse, debate, and contemplation.
Peer Review Process
Submitted essays are subject to a blind review by the Sophia editorial board. Essays are chosen to be included on the basis of consensus, and final decicions are made by the editors in chief. Editors judge submitted essays on writing quality and general philosophical merit: quality of argument, novel approach to the subject at hand, etc.
Publication Frequency
Sophia is published annually by the Philosophy Students' Union at the University of Victoria.
Open Access Policy
This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.
